Orange (Hutchison Telecom)

Orange is the newest mobile phone service in the UK. Orange Personal Communications Services Ltd, under the control of Hutchison Telecom, operate a state-of-the-art PCN digital network.

With the emphasis firmly on innovativion, Orange offer many advanced features: Caller ID, Calls charged by the Second, Text Messaging, Free Monthly Calls, Fax and Data Service, Itemised Billing, Call Divert, Call Waiting, Free Phone Insurance and a 3 Year Phone Warranty. (Damaged, Faulty and Stolen Phones are also replaced free-of-charge by Orange usually within 2 hours.)

Currently Orange covers over 90% of the UK population and aims to cover over 95% by the end of 1996. Coverage is being improved daily and almost all metropolitan areas are now within Orange's Service Area. Independent tests concluded that Orange offered "the best overall service in Central London." The digital technology used means that calls have much clearer call quality and greater security against eavesdropping than traditional analogue networks.

Orange was the first mobile phone network to charge you by the second instead of rounding up to the nearest minute or half-minute. All their Tariffs include free monthly airtime from 15 minutes to 9 hours a month, and the following services are also free: Itemised Billing, Caller ID, Change of Tariff, One Year's Insurance, Call Barring, Call Hold, Call Waiting and Subscription to the Orange Answerphone Service.

There are currently four mobile phones available for the Orange network: the new Ericsson er100, the new Nokia 5.1, the Dancall dc1 and the Motorola mr20. The flagship of the range is the Ericsson er100 phone which has every feature and more that you could possibly ask for in a mobile. The newest phone is the Nokia 5.1 which is a superb improvement on the old Nokia and has several new features. The mr20 is a cheaper, smaller and lighter alternative and is an excellent phone at an unbelievable price!
